Lockdown Update - 26 Jan

I am pleased to say that we have been able to make significant progress against some of the core areas that were outlined to us as student concerns. We have maintained our commitment to work collaboratively with the University and keep student voice at the heart of the conversation, at all levels across the institution.

Fees

Academia is still facing unprecedented challenges and we have received an overwhelming amount of feedback. Thank you. We have collated the core themes and will continue to present your concerns and challenges to the University who are constantly looking for ways to improve the student experience and the online learning platform.

In addition to this, as a Union, we have written to the local Member of Parliament of the constituency in which the University falls. We hope the concessions outlined are considered carefully and look forward to bringing you an update in the coming weeks.

Student Feedback

Please continue to use our representative structure of Programme Reps and Part Time Officers and tell us honestly about your experience. Last week we mentioned the specific challenges of those students that are parent/carers. For assurance, we are now working closely with our Part Time Officer for parent/carers and assisting them in presenting the challenges and possible concessions for this demographic to the University at the highest level.

We want to ensure that all students are represented so please do continue to come forward if you have any suggestions or concerns you would like to raise. We want to do our utmost to help you navigate these unprecedented and difficult times.

Events and Services

Our programme of Refreshers has now gone live. Please head over to the derbyfresh website to book your place on any of the events. They are all completely free!

Our Keddies shop remains open to ensure that access to sandwiches, snacks, and drinks is available to those students with lessons on site or visiting the library. In addition Starbucks is staying open for hot takeaway drinks. We will continue to monitor the number of visitors to these buildings over the next few weeks and communicate with you again once Blends is ready to reopen. Thank you for continuing to support Union outlets during this challenging time, we will be back serving you our amazing fair-trade coffee and hot chocolates again very soon!

Please stay safe and continue to check in on your friends and family, as I have said many times before, these are very challenging times; however, we remain here for you and will continue to represent you and support you in the best way we can. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Stay safe. Stay well. Stay connected.
