LoveSHaC (love sexual health and consent)

We want to talk about all things sex, relationships and most importantly… consent. Regardless of your sexuality or gender, we want to ensure that all students have the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about healthy relationships and sex.

What does consent look like?

  • Enthusiastically saying “yes!”
  • Talking to your partner about what you do and don't want, and listening to them in return
  • Checking in with your partner – “Is this OK? Do you want to slow down? Do you want to stop?”
  • Respecting someone’s choice if they say “no” – never trying to change their mind or put pressure on them

What does a healthy relationship look like?

A healthy relationship is one that makes you feel happy and safe, where there is trust and honesty. It doesn’t look like emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. It doesn’t look like disrespect and distrust.

Where can I get contraception?

We can provide free condoms and lube to all students. If you’re between 16-24, you can access free condoms through the C-scheme.

Where can I get support?

The Union has trained Sexual Violence Liaison Officers who are available to support anyone who has experienced any form of sexual violence.

SV2 is an organisation in Derby who supports anyone who has experienced sexual violence and can provide counselling and access to the sexual assault referral centre for forensic testing.

Remedi run monthly training sessions specialising in identifying and safeguarding abusive and controlling relationships.

Rape Crisis have a 24 hour rape and sexual abuse support line.

Our three main goals

  • Educate on the importance of sexual health and consent
  • Start conversations about what a healthy sexual relationship looks like and break the stigmas surrounding sex and consent
  • Raise awareness on what support is available for anyone who’s experienced sexual violence or are in abusive relationships

Our plans

  • We’re asking students to pledge to ‘keep their hands off’ and only engage in consensual sexual activity
