Referenda
A referendum is a vote on a single issue to do with how the Union is run, and may be called by any student with a secure petition of 200+ members. All members of the Union can then vote for or against. A minimum of 1,000 students must vote, and 66% must be in favour for the decision to be accepted.
It is currently written into our Standing Orders that each year we hold a referendum on the Union’s affiliation to NUS UK during the main elections period. Other referendums can be brought forward by following the steps above.
The official wording and the voting period for a referendum is set by a panel of students during a Scrutiny Panel meeting. The question shall require a decision either `FOR', `AGAINST' or `ABSTAIN'.
