-a NOISE alert email that is checked and dealt with immediately -Staff member in the silent zone, top floor Kedleston road to monitor the noise level -More reminders that this is a silent area, meaning no noise (you can't have enough of them) -At bri mill, swapping the silent and quiet zones as it makes no sense to have go through the silent zone to get in the quiet zone and the bookshelves in the silent zone mean that student discusses when looking for books.... nonsense any more suggestions?

Had a few issues last year when studying at Ked Road with noise, but a staff member normally happened to be on hand and dealt with it fairly promptly. I don't think a staff member should have to march round the gaff shushing people though as that just seems like a waste of a librarian. The Library should be self policing in my opinion, and staff should only be getting involved if, despite all efforts by the students to politely ask the offender to quieten down, they keep being a nuisance, at which point they should be banned for a number of days. Repeat offences should increase the duration of any subsequent penalty and access to services such as printing should be revoked.

I really like the idea of the ban I must say! I thought was more to have one of the admin guys having a desk in the silent area so that it is not a waste of resources. I study in the silent area a lot and there is not one day (or hour) without student being annoying. Us student should not have to ask them to shhh a few time because by them they would have wasted a considerable amount of time. It seems that self policing is not quite working. Unless they display more reinders about the silent area being a SILENT area. Yu would not think that this would be an issue at university level.... The library, with three different level is well organised, why on earth would you go to a silent zone to do some group work whilst there is a discussion zone within the same building?!

I have been sat in the red zone and for the past half an hour the guys next to me have been talking loudly. I totally get conversation is great but I really struggle to concerntrate with noise... hence why I came to the silent study area. I have no where else to go to study. Please respect other students guys.

Hi Sammie, i have been in touch with the managers of the libraries and as it stands nithing can be done in the short term. I tend to renind them that it is a silent zone... If you are in britania mills, i would advise yiu to go to ine of the silent computer rooms, there are three computer, no need ti book a table, and if two other students joins and speak, it is very easy to ask them to keep it down (they would probs leave then). Done it all week, much better!
