We all know the pain of having a 9am. A pain that is made worse when you're watching bus after bus drive past because they're full. Having a double Decker will be faster, more convenient and overall safer for students who are attending the university in the morning. Having the double Decker run from 8-10 would reduce the amount of the people standing on the bus and mean more students can get to class on time.

I used to think the same. But though double deckers look big and spacious, they only have space for an extra 5 or so students in reality. This was discussed at the Markeaton Street Forum where we were told the Uni has brought this up with the bus company before and it was decided there was no actual benefit of running a double decker service. Unfortunately there is no easy fix to this problem. If I recall correctly, since introducing the free bus service, the number of people riding on the service annualy has gone from about 400,000 to about 600,000 - 800,000 (I can’t remember the exact figures).

Are the University willing to consider increasing the number of buses, then, as this issue is about supply lagging far behind the demand? A free bus service is great PR, but useless for customers in between the train station and campus who watch several buses go past every morning.
