    Many prospective PhD students at the university often hear about the "plenty of teaching opportunities" available. However, the reality is that there are very few chances for voluntary or paid teaching roles in undergraduate or master's courses. The academic job market is notoriously competitive, and without these teaching experiences, PhD students at Derby find themselves at a disadvantage compared to their peers at other universities, where such opportunities are more readily available.
