All students that have placements embedded within their courses at any stage, should receive notification of where they are being allocated to within a reasonable time. This timeframe should avoid any disruption towards other modules, study and completing assignments. Thought and consideration is needed towards effectively supporting this population of students and how disruption towards placement allocations can considerably effect the physical, emotional and mental wellbeing of students.

2:45pm on 16 Oct 19 Sorry to here this Chantelle, if there is anything I can support you with I'm here to help. scs.officer@derbyunion.co.uk I know within my own cohort of social work students we have had similar issues. Hopefully with more support from students facing the same difficulties we can get the university talking and putting better things in place. :)

3:07pm on 16 Oct 19 This is really needed. Placement impacts so heavily upon your life so we should find out within a reasonable time frame so that we can put preparations into place whilst we are on placement. It can also cause anxiety and stress when they cut it too close to tell you before you start.

9:26am on 28 Nov 19 Yesterday this idea was taken to Student Summit and voted on by over 100 students. I am very pleased to say that your idea was passed, with 98 students voting for this idea. Congratulations!!! What this means is that we, the Union of Students, will attempt to action this idea as soon as possible for the remainder of this academic year and a further 3 years. Whilst this doesn’t mean the idea will necessarily become a reality, it means we will do our best to make it happen over this time period, encouraging the University to take action on your idea to make it a reality. We will post updates on our website and our full time officers will give updates at our Scrutiny Panels (which happen 6 times per year – check out our Facebook events to see when the next panel you can attend is.) If you have any questions about any part of this, please contact me at laura.maher@derbyunion.co.uk and thank you again for using your voice to make a change and allowing the Union to represent your interests.
