As a blue badge holder I park in front of the uni in one of the very few disabled spots (only 20!). However there are uni minibuses and vans parked in these spots and most of them across two or three spaces! I have made reception aware but this has not changed anything. The amount of disabled spaces are very limited as it is without these spaces being taken up too. This also makes it harder for me to park and to get out of the car. Disabled students need more room to get out of the car.

I have been in touch with the uni feedback about this and was told they are NOT DISABLED spaces.. I was rather annoyed by the attitude I got and the answer is do TRY and add some disabled spaces in car park 1! I mean how far is that.. They should make the area outside reception into disabled spaces. There are usually 5-6 university minibuses parked there and they take up 2-3 spots each. Because of them, I have already scrapped my car on a bus (thought there was a spot, realised not and reversed out of the so called spot and caught the side of the bus). I have complained 5 times to reception, you get nowhere. It is difficult enough to get my crutches in the car the spaces are that right, without me having to think about getting my walking frame out! Car Park 1 is not acceptable when you gave struggled to get to uni etc. with your pain levels.

This is EXACTLY why I’m doing this!! They ARE disabled spaces and are included in the 20 something spaces they advertise as disabled parking! There Is a sign saying blue badge holders only! I’m so sorry they were rude to you but this is disabled parking and should be used as such. This is why I’m campaigning for this. I’m exactly the same with my walking stick and I need extra room to swing my legs fully out before I stand up and I never have room! It’s a really big issue.

Hi everyone, I have followed up on this and can confirm the parking opposite the bus stop is for overflow parking, they have considered it for disabled parking before but the way the land level is, it does not qualify to be official blue badge parking. The good news is we will receive up to 25 new blue badge parking spaces spread across the different car parks at ked road by Easter.
