Ben Jarvis

Hi, for those of you who do not know me, my name is Ben. Next year I will be going into my third year of university, studying Criminology. I am a current first team member and sports scholar and I will be running for the role of President.

Why am I best suited for this role? Being part of this society from the start of university, I believe I have developed a good relationship with every member. Relationships which will ensure that I always place the members and clubs best interests first.

My first action if I am elected will be to create a new role within the club, Charity Officer. Charity work is a staple of most societies at all universitys and I believe it is missed opportunity for the club to give back and bring awareness to causes that are massively important to today's society and some that are close to us as a society or our members individually.

Secondly, I understand the importance of a thriving social environment for anyone who is part of a society. Working with the newly appointed Social Secretaries I will push for the planning of more social events which will include nights out, joint socials, meals, and sober socials aimed at, yet not exclusive to, those who prefer not to drink or prefer a quieter night in. These events will be open to the whole of the badminton society, with the aim of bolstering the environment that this years committee have started to create.

Furthermore, Publicity is something that believe is vital to the running and growth of a society. Working with the rest of the committe I would like to push to become more active on social media, as well as, planning more give it a go sessions throughout the year in collaboration with TeamDerby with the end goal of appealing to a larger range of people at the university and welcoming in more members, thus allowing us to create more opportunities for the society.

The performance side of the Badminton society is something that has been an integral part of my time at Derby and something which I still hope to continue developing on throughout the year. One goal that I would love to implement is the collaboration of TeamDerby Badminton with other rival universities to offer a different environment for players to continue to thrive and one that I think, if implemented, would only be beneficial to our players.

For the last four years Derby Badminton has been an important part of my life and will continue to be so long after graduating. This being so, if chosen I will try my hardest to continually improve the club that has given me many opportunities and support, and I will constantly be open to suggestions from members of the club on what they believe can be done to create a better environment for everyone. Furthermore, I will be available for anyone who has any concerns or queries throughout the year.

If I am elected next year I will endeavour to run bi-weekly or monthly committee meetings to make sure that everyone is kept in the loop. Not only will this ensure the smooth running of the society but it will allow us to share ideas and plans to create bigger and better opportunities for the club.

Thank you for taking the time to read my manifesto and I hope you vote for me!
