Maddie’s manifesto to be the next social secretary!

About me:

Hey! I’m Maddie Tyler and I am currently in my second year, going into third year, studying Media Production. This manifesto is all about me running to be one of the next Derby Raven’s Cheerleading social secretaries. I asked my closest friends how they would describe me, with some of the answers consisting of being a party animal, loyal, down to earth, and friendly. I would consider myself as being an individual that anyone can come to, no matter the time or day if they needed someone to talk to or relate to, which I hope is something my fellow ravens can agree with! Since joining the Derby Ravens roughly halfway through my first year of university, I have felt welcomed by both the committee and members, along with making many new friends. As your potential social secretary, I thoroughly want every single fresher, as well as returning members to feel as comfortable and included as possible, and to thrive!

Due to not starting at the beginning, like other members, I have to admit that I was worried I had missed the point of meeting new people, but social events have been a large part of what made me feel like a true raven. Both Abbie and Morgan have proved to me what it means, as well as what it makes, to be organised and committed social secretaries, with all of the social events I have been to and participated in, being very fun and a perfect, yet chilled chance for members to mix with each other, having not the chance to speak to during training. It is also a great way for the Pep team and Comp team to get to know each other in the teamwork-based games, due to the different training times.

Going into my third year, I look back at my past two years of being at university and I am completely sure that without being part of the Derby Ravens, my experience would not have been the same as it has been. I want everyone to have the same amazing, unforgettable memories!

I can see, my family can see, and my friends can see that since starting university, I have really come out of my shell, with me most likely being spotted in clubs around three times a week…

Sometimes…

I feel like I can talk to anyone about anything, with my friends seeing me as someone they can be very comfortable discussing their problems with. I want to be seen as someone that freshers can come to for any advice, relating to the club or not.

In my degree, I make countless risk assessments, due to filming and recording in several locations with several different people, with me being very familiar with what they consist of. My degree also has a large amount of decision-making and teamwork involved, with me constantly being in a social environment. I constantly call up and book filming locations, as well as helping to sort out schedules for other course-mates, showing I have experience in this field.

What do I want to achieve?

Let the members speak! – I want as many suggestions in terms of potential social ideas, themes, games or joint socials as possible! I know this is a great way for members to feel included and feel like they have a voice within the ravens.

New, never done before socials! – I would love to try out new ideas, that have never been done before. But also keeping in mind the fact that we are university students that can’t afford to go to Luvyababes or any other costume shops every weekend. The ideal socials are ones that have outfits that don’t include an extortionate amount of effort, but still manage to make members laugh!

Sober socials! – I know how important comps are to the team, so important that the comp members are restricted from drinking the Wednesday social before. I want to make sober socials more popular, with me and the other social secretary coming up and creating ideas that could attract more people to come!

Joint socials! – I feel like I have connections with other societies and sports clubs, such as rugby, women’s hockey and men’s football. However as the next social secretary, I would love to collaborate with other sports clubs, giving the chance for old and new member of Derby Ravens to make as many friends as possible.

Best dressed! – I love when members put effort into their costumes for themed nights! Therefore, I want to make those members be seen and be congratulated, by choosing a member each week as best dressed.
