Aim

As Social Secretary, the aim is mostly be to make the society fun to be a part of. Some of this role involves organising events for people to enjoy and part is centred around getting people involved in these events and others. To succeed with this one must work closely with the treasurer and secretary to see what is a realistic possiblity for the society to achieve.

Overview

My name is Owen. I am a second year Film Production student. I am running for the position of Social Secretary within the Musical Theatre Society because I believe my skills could bring plenty to the society by being in this role. As a media student with experience in hospitality I feel as though I would be an ideal candidate for the role based around social events and social media. As Social Secretary, I would aim to help the society as a whole, creating more opportunities to form long lasting memories throughout the year, as well as making the society profit from events where possible.

Issues and Goals

  1. Marketing the Society: For a few years, the Musical Theatre Society has been lacking a social media presence, when compared to other societies and sports. As Social Secretary, I would aim to increase our social media presence to help spread the word of our society around to other students and to prospective students. Doing this would mean that more people would buy tickets to our shows or attending our open events (e.g. Quiz Night at Friary), earning us more money to do bigger and better things, and would also make more people want to join the society, meaning more opportunities to make good friends.

  2. Introductory Socials: At the end of the day, being part of a society is about making friends with common interests and a major part of that is going out for time together to get to know each other. At the beginning of the 2021/22 academic year the Musical Theatre Society had no Social Secretary, which means we didn't get our first official social night until quite late into the year. My aim would be to have an equivalent social much earlier into the year so that we can actually get to know each other and more importantly the Freshers.

  3. Further Social Events: Past the beginning of the year my aim would be to have multiple socials. These events could avoid alcohol around major rehearsal times so that we can have a good time as a full group without risking the quality of our performances. These events could be anything from the predictable events (e.g. theatre trips and pub nights) to more unexpected socials such as laser tag or roller skating. These events would help strengthen our bonds as a society and as friends.
