Re-Open Nominations
In all of our elections we have a candidate called RON (Re-Open Nominations). Think of it as a way to vote against any of the candidates running for a post. By choosing RON you're saying that you don't think the candidate(s) are suitable and you would like to re-start the elections with different people.
If RON wins then the election will be re-run and the candidates that were running will not be allowed to re-submit a nomination to run again.
Using STV voting you can even show a preference for a candidate (or list of candidates) and then choose RON to show that if none of your selected candidates win you'd rather re-run the election than have any of the unselected candidates win the position. Simply add RON after your selection and submit your vote without listing those candates you feel are unacceptable.
If you don't wish to submit a vote for a candidate but don't feel that none are unsuitable for the role you can abstain – your participation is then noted but you do not have a vote towards the outcome. RON is an option for if you feel that any of the candidates are unsuitable and should not win. It is an active vote towards an outcome rather than abstaining which is a passive vote with no effect on the outcome.
