The Careers with Social Impact - Make a Difference Conference is an excellent opportunity for you to gain insights into public and charity sector careers with social impact.
Whether this is a pathway you are wishing to pursue, or you’d like to explore your career options, join us for a day of talks, interactive workshops and networking. You will hear from industry experts and sector professionals about their experience, gain advice, and get the chance to speak with them over lunch.
There will be a full schedule for the day to support you in exploring public sector careers, with lots activities along the way. The conference is a full day of related activities, therefore, to get the most out of the event, we recommend that you attend all sessions.
Welcome and sector overview - 10.30am - 11am
Register and join us for an overview of life working in a career that makes a difference including the range of opportunities to make impact, key employers, average salary, number of graduates employed in the public sector, opportunities in the East Midlands and alumni case studies.
Decoding the job and networking tips -11am - 11.30am
This session will offer practical advice and tips to help you find opportunities, whether that is work experience, a year placement or a graduate role. Some job titles can be confusing, we will dig beneath the title to help you understand job requirements of a range of roles.
This session will also help you prepare for the networking lunch with hints and tips on conversation starters, using an elevator pitch and following up with employers.
Breakout Talks - 11.30am - 12.30pm
Choose to attend a breakout talk depending on your career interests. Invited speakers and alumni from the public service sectors will give taster talks about their employers, career journeys, sector insights and opportunities within their field.
Networking Lunch -12.30pm - 1.15pm
Join us for a light lunch and chance to network with the morning speakers, academic team and careers. You will also have the opportunity to explore postgraduate study options.
Don’t worry if you are a nervous networker – help and prompts will be available, and we will have prizes for excellent questions and discussions!
Alumni Panel -1.15pm - 1.50pm
This session will be informal and engaging with an opportunity to hear the stories of previous students working in a career that makes a difference, with time for you to ask questions too.
Next steps and closing remarks -1.50pm - 2pm
The plenary session will include a prize draw and an opportunity for you to reflect on what you have learnt and commit to next steps in your career journey
