A society is a group of students who all share a common interest. These are set up and run by students with support and funding from the Union of Students. We currently have 45 active societies ranging from Anime and Manga to Underground Music.

Between the 13th-24th March, Find Your Thing is bringing you a chance to get involved in a brand new society.

We are launching four new societies: Needlework (Knitting/Crochet/Embroidery) society, Veggie/Vegan society, BSL society, Disney society. All students are invited to attend a free Give It a Go (GIAG) session during ‘Find your Thing’ fortnight. There will be limited availability on some of the sessions so keep an eye on our events page so you don't miss out!

These sessions are a chance to learn a new skill or make a new group of lifelong friends and develop new and transferable skills. There are lots of benefits to being part of a society at university. These include:

  • Having access to a dedicated member of staff to support
  • Utilising a pot of funding to support their activities
  • Accessing university spaces for activities and events
  • Being part of a community of a community of experienced committee members and having support from Societies Council
  • Gain transferable skills which look great on your CV. These might be leadership, communication, responsibility etc.

Did you know you can start your own society? All you need is a minimum of 15 students to start-up with you.

Or maybe you can revive one of our dormant societies?
