BUCS was back in action this week as most of our teams took part in cup competitions, looking to make the later rounds.

In the football, only the Women’s 1sts and the Men’s 4ths remained in their respective competitions.

As the Women progressed by walkover against Coventry 1sts, the Men’s 4ths were mightily unlucky to drop out of the Conference Cup against Birmingham City Uni’s 1sts, drawing 1-1 in normal time only to lose in sudden death on penalties.

The most convincing win of the day came from the Men’s Rugby Union 1sts who disposed of Leicester 2nds, winning 29-0.

The Women’s Rugby Union 1sts also won due to forfeit from Oxford’s 2nds.

The Women’s Badminton 1sts recorded an impressive victory in the Prem North, winning 8-0 against Newcastle's 1sts, while the 2nds narrowly beat Birmingham City Uni’s 1sts to enter the next round of the Conference Cup.

The Men’s teams were not able to match them as both the 1sts and 2nds recorded losses in Warwick.

The Netball teams experienced a day of mixed emotions as the 2nds romped to victory against Worcester 4ths winning 43-25, while the 3rds were comfortably defeated by their Oxford Brookes counterparts.

The Women’s Squash 1sts and the Women’s Hockey 1sts were the only other teams to win on home ground, the former beating Nottingham 4ths on sets, while the latter progressed in the Conference Trophy with a 4-1 victory.

The Men’s Table Tennis 1sts were able to overcome Nottingham Trent 5ths in what was the only other Derby win of the day.

The Men’s Badminton teams both lost by some margin, whilst the Basketball teams had an unsuccessful evening as the Women’s 1sts and Men’s 2nds lost in the University of Derby Sports Centre.

The Lacrosse and Volleyball teams were equally unsuccessful in their attempts to win, while the Men’s Squash 1sts lost in straight sets to Warwick’s 2nds.

There will however be more opportunities for Derby Uni wins as the week progresses.

The Women’s Futsal 1sts will travel to Nottingham to face their 3rds on Friday evening, while the Men’s 1sts will make a trip to East Anglia in an attempt to maintain their unbeaten run.

They will also face Warwick’s 1sts at our Sports Centre on Sunday, while the Women’s Table Tennis 1sts will play three consecutive games from 12-2pm, as the American Football 1sts will look to assert themselves against their Keele counterparts away from home.
