Hi everyone, Union President Holly here to share the best three things I learnt from running in the Elections.

1. Running in the elections taught me the importance of just putting myself out there and giving it a go, which helped me grow in confidence while having a great time. It gave me the freedom to engage with students, share my ideas, and showcase why they should vote for me, making the whole experience both rewarding and enjoyable. If your feeling a bit nervous then bring some friends along, creating a campaign team helps support you throughout your journey. Using the election packs provided and being active in as many spaces as possible helped me connect with students. Most importantly, I learned to stay true to why I was running, ensuring my campaign was authentic and meaningful.

2. Running in the elections taught me how to truly understand students by listening to their needs and concerns. By engaging with them in classrooms, club training sessions, and SOC gatherings, I gained valuable insights into what they wanted from their elected representative. This helped me shape my campaign around the issues that mattered most to them, ensuring I could represent their voices effectively.

3. Running in our elections was a huge learning experience that helped me build so many useful skills for the future. I learned how to communicate effectively, whether it was speaking to students, delivering speeches, or putting together campaign messages. Leading my campaign team taught me how to work with others, stay organised, and adapt when things didn’t go to plan. It also gave me confidence in advocating for ideas and working with different people to make things happen. From managing social media to gathering feedback and planning initiatives, the whole experience strengthened my leadership, problem-solving, and time management skills—things that will definitely help me wherever I go next.
