🌸 Let’s Be Friends 🌸

The "Let's Be Friends" campaign, launched by myself, Union President and Gabriela Gretkowska, VP Activities, it aims to enhance accessibility and inclusion for key student groups, including Apprentice, Commuter, Mature, Online, PGR, Carer, and Student Parents. Based on data and feedback from last year, we used tools like Thursday Thoughts to identify barriers, such as event timing and relevance, and tailored activities to fit around social and academic schedules. To foster inclusivity, we sought student input on event types, such as family-friendly or daytime options, and adjusted language to ensure event descriptions were clear and inviting. So far, three of thirteen planned events have taken place, with the campaign prioritising engagement and wellbeing across the year. While initial turnout has been lower than anticipated, we have been reflecting on potential barriers that may still be preventing students from attending.

We recently met with our marketing team to reassess the campaign, discussing whether the title ‘Let’s Be Friends’ might unintentionally alienate students who may be struggling or feeling isolated. Despite, some of the events have a lower turnout, highlights include our Chesterfield Coffee and Cake morning, which had strong nursing student participation and provided insight into their needs and perceptions of the Union. This campaign reinforces the Union’s commitment to creating supportive, student-led spaces where students can connect, discover Union offerings, and enjoy meaningful activities.
