Over the freshers' period, lots of clubs will be talking about GIAGs, also known as 'give it a go' sessions. We wanted to give you the low down on what these are and how you can get involved!

We understand that making a commitment (both financially and time-wise) to an extra curricular activity can be a big step, and might be overwhelming as you're just starting your university journey. This is why our student groups (sports, societies and student-led services) host give it a go sessions at the start of the semester for any students who are interested in joining the club. These sessions usually take place during Freshers' Fortnight and act as an introduction to the club; the GIAG will show you what a usual session looks like, as well as giving you the opportunity to ask any questions and meet the committee and existing members.

Clubs will usually share their GIAG details on their social media channels, but you also have the opportunity to talk to clubs in person about what they're doing at our Activities Fair! This is a part of Freshers' Fair and will be held down in the Sports Centre at Kedleston Road; it's a great opportunity to meet all of the 80+ clubs we offer and find out more about what they get up to and how you can get involved.

You can find all of the GIAG sessions on our website!
