We have now had the first Student Forum of the 22-23 academic year, hosted by the Union of Students and the University of Derby Online Learning team. There was a lot of discussion around study tips and support from both staff and students.
Some valuable top tips shared were:
- Put together a study plan and utilise your PAT in the process if you have questions
- Create a comfortable study space and remember to make time for downtime
- Use the Blackboard Collaborate room or schedule student meetings on MS Teams to connect with other students and share ideas.
- If you are struggling to make live sessions, speak to your programme lead because if tutors know there are issues, they can try to fix them.
- It is helpful to bookmark content on Blackboard so you can easily find the page you’re looking for
- If there are ever resources that aren’t designed in an accessible way, please let your module tutor know.
- Try forwarding your university emails to your personal email account, so you don’t miss announcements, especially at the start of your studies
- Your PAT is there to support you with questions are queries regarding careers and opportunities, so remember to set meetings with them regularly
- Develop@Derby (accessible via the Library) contains useful information relating to careers, advice and study skills that all students can access.
This student forum was the first for the new incoming Online Student Officer, Rachel Tulloch who was supported by Ian Whitehead (Academic Head of Online Learning). She felt it was great to see that the whole academic team were engaging with students and answering any questions brought forward. Rachel is on hand to support all online students in their studies and you can contact her via email.
Thank you to everyone who came along to October’s Forum. As a reminder, there is a Discord space for all online students to provide an additional hub to meet and discuss anything and everything. The link to the Discord server is here.
The next forum is Tuesday the 28th February at 10 am and it would be great to see as many students there as possible. Information on how to join will be released closer to the time.
