"Dear overseas compatriots, students, and friends,

In the sound of the firecrackers, we farewelled the Year of the Ox; under the sparkle of fireworks, we welcomed the Year of the Tiger.

On behalf of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Manchester, I would like to wish you all a happy and prosperous year of Tiger, a good health, an advancement in career and all the best for the rest of the year.

The year 2021 was a significant year on the history of Chinese nationality. Facing the once-in-a-century change due to the pandemic and following the lead of the Comrade Xi Jinping, the Chinese people have overcome difficulties and forged ahead, winning the battle against poverty and beating a moderately prosperous society as scheduled, fulfilled the first hundred-year goal of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

2021 is the 10^th year of the launch of the China-Europe trainline. During the pandemic, the China-Europe trainline, functioned as the “life pathway”, has operated more than 10,000 trains for two consecutive years. The year-over-year growth in GDP has increased 8.1% and the volume of the Chinese economy has exceeded more than 110 trillion RMB, the foreign trade volume has exceeded 6 trillion US dollar for the very first time.

The fourteenth ‘Five-Year Plan’ had a good opening. The Chinese nation has endured hardships and has been indomitable as well as dauntless to face the challenge and rebuild itself.

The Chinese overseas compatriots are an important part of the Chinese nation. They are self-resilient, rational, and peaceful, and do not cause trouble for their residence countries. Through their diligence, modesty and dedication, their residence on the beautiful British land has made positive contributions to the local economy. Meanwhile, they are also firmly opposed to the racial discrimination and have won the acclaim of the British people.

You firmly supported the peaceful reunification of the motherland, firmly uphold the unity of overseas Chinese community, promoted the friendly relationship between China and the UK. During the fight against the pandemic, you fully carried forward the virtue of the Chinese nation to support each other, sending medical treatment and medicines to your compatriots who are affected with the virus. We are in the same boat, sharing the same pain and sufferings and the good news is spreading.

As the Beijing Winter Olympic Games is about to begin, 50 UK athletes are on their way to Beijing. Together with the athletes from all over the worlds, they will be building their dreams on the ice and snow and achieving great results.

In this new year, the Chinese Communist Party will hold the 20^th National People’s Congress.  This is a significant event of for the Party and the government. The contemporary China is a magnificent country, with great people and ambitious future. We will carry on sustaining the stable and healthy economy, safe and peace society as well as a clean and honest political environment. Paving in the scroll of history as we move forward and writing the new chapter though our constant dedication.

Overseas compatriots, students and friends, 2022 is the Year of the Tiger. Tiger symbolises braveness and strength. Facing the severe challenge faced by the mankind, we need to be tigers with wings and let the light of hope shine on the Chinese diaspora, on campuses and on every one of us.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and the UK. Let’s be the ambassadors of the communication between the UK and China, to fight against all the difficulties and hardships and to win a great success and glories together. We wish the success of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, and wish you and your family a good health, happiness, good luck and prosperity."
