Welcome to the University of Derby Medical Society page. We thank you for your interest and just know that you'll love all that we have to offer this academic year! Our society is evolving and we can't wait for you to join us on this exciting journey. We're an all inclusive group of students studying a variety of courses - from Social Work, to Biomedical Science, to Forensics and Human Biology. It doesn't matter what course you're on- if you just enjoy watching medical dramas on tv or if you're an aspiring doctor. We offer something each week whether that be a more academic meeting or a casual social.

Information and support on what to include in your personal statement, support for the Graduate Entry Medicine application process, postgraduate applications such as Physicians Associate, Science MScs, PhDs and anything else that you require.
- Fundraising, Volunteering and Work Opportunities
We will be maintaining our close relationship with Anthony Nolan throughout the year, offering volunteering roles during our Stem Cell recruitment drives! You'll also be provided applications for shadowing roles within the local hospital and healthcare / science job opportunities as they arise. Join us for our fundraiser this year - Plate Smash. Exactly what it sounds like!
Opportunities to refine your first aid skills - important life skills
- Medical Sign Language Classes
Stand out from the crowd (and contribute towards inclusivity) with our medical sign language classes. A certificate is issued upon completion of the online part of the course - included in your membership!
- Open Days
Join us various institutes' Open Days, including medical schools, universities for postgraduate study, research facilities and other graduate opportunites. We'll be travelling to local universities and taking requests to visit those further afield!
- Fortnightly Meetings
Informal meetings to catch up with members, taking place both online and in person. An opportunity to discuss the direction of the society, arrange our exciting activities, present information on various courses (including all you need to know about GEM), guest speakers, work experience and employment opportunities. Problem based learning, diagnose your 'patient' based on history, presentation and tests.
- Fortnightly Socials
Our committee is working hard planning our fortnightly socials! Join us for laser tag, escape rooms and casual basecamp meetups.
- Study Groups
Taking place around deadline times, group revision for exams / assessments and GAMSAT / UCAT practise questions. All courses welcome.
Join us for a Christmas Party and end of year summer blowout!
Membership for Academic Year 23/24 - £10
Membership enables free entry to all our meetings, study groups, application support, open days, medical sign language classes, professional development courses and teams area. A small contibution may be applied for other social activities but we aim to use membership funds and fundraising opportunities to make sure any additional cost for our activities is minimal!
Give It A Go- FREE - Date and Room TBA
Come and join us for our give it a go session! This is completely free and a great opportunity to see all that we have to offer this year, get an insight into the material presented at our meetings, review what we got up to last year, get to know the committee and break the ice with a social pint in Basecamp after. Bring your friends or come alone, everyone is welcome! Oh, did we mention the free food?
