Lacrosse
As a pretty niche sport here at the University of Derby, lacrosse (lax) is one of those things you need to try before making any judgements. But put simply, yes, it is like Wild Child and Teen Wolf!
During a lax game, you’ll use your stick to carry, pass, catch, and shoot the ball just like in other sports you’ve probably tried. So, although it looks super complicated, it’s genuinely easy to get the hang of. Whether you’re playing Men’s, Women’s, or Mixed, you’ll utilise and develop your hand-eye coordination whilst enjoying all the fun of playing a team sport. You don’t need to have picked up a stick before (most of our club hadn’t before uni!), just be willing to show up, learn, and be a team player.
Teams:
We have 2 teams, Men’s 1st & Women’s 1st, who both compete in BUCS.
Our men’s team had an amazing, unbeaten 2021/22 season and our women’s team brought home another convincing varsity win for 2023!
Socials:
We’re not all work, no play. With weekly events and themes planned to suit all of our members, lax is a great place to make new friends and fill out your social calendar. Remember, you can also join as a social member if playing isn’t quite your thing.
Training:
Tuesdays 6:30-8pm on the bottom 4G pitch @ Kedleston Road (term time only)
Sundays 11-1pm on Sturgess field, behind the Jonty Farmer
Membership:
Men's: £60
Men's membership includes the renting of all required playing equipment, including your own helmet, stick, pads, and full Team Derby kit. For reference, a full inventory of men's lacrosse gear costs hundreds to buy.
Women's: £50
We're happy to announce that we're freezing the price for women to play lacrosse with us in BUCS, making us one of the most affordable union clubs and societies for the 23/24 academic year. DO NOT MISS OUT!
Social: £25
With weekly socials fit for all, you're sure to get your money's worth here. Pub golf, American Dream, Fathers and Sons - you name it, we offer it!
